Currently Featuring: Don Alberto Tequila is produced at Tequilera Puerta de Hierro, NOM 1477. The distillery's name translates to "Iron Gate" and it is located in the Tequila Valley near El Arenal, Jalisco. The plant's Production Manager, Alberto Partida Hermosilla, is the Master Distiller for the Don Alberto line. The first batch of this tequila was released and fortunately, Tequila Connection was provided a bottle for review. ![]() Tequila Connection evaluated Don Alberto Tequilas on 27 Jan 2018. The tequila was served at room temperature using Riedel tequila glasses. The bottle is classy with artistic etching of tequila production elements along with an embossed medallion affixed to the label. They are individually number indicating limited quantities were released in this initial batch. The particular bottle we reviewed was number 392 of 600. There is a cork (requiring a cork screw) beneath a rubbery seal. Alberto has indicated he plans to use a different stopper, easier to open, for future releases. This tequila has a dark-amber appearance that demands a second look. The artistic gold etching on the bottle looks impressive in front of the rich-colored product inside. A swirl and nice tracks of tears are observed slowly cascading down the side of the glass. We are anxious to proceed. The appearance reminds me of the wonderful Hijo Predilecto Extra Añejo tequila that we sampled at their distillery back in May of 2011. On the nose we have a lot of fruitiness along with caramel, vanilla, maple syrup and oak. Very intriguing. Upon tasting, we found the body to be medium-oily and complex flavors very noticeable. We experienced a burst of stone fruit (cherry), toasted marshmallow, coffee, vanilla, maple syrup, caramel, and chocolate. The lengthy finish is spicy (cinnamon) with oak overtones. We really enjoyed tasting this well-balanced tequila. Don Alberto's Gran Reserva received a score of 93 converting to a Rating of Excellent -. Hats off to Don Alberto Hemosillo and the folks at Tequilera Puerta de Hierro for creating this fantastic tequila! We highly recommend you taste for yourself. [HOME ] [TOP][ALL ABOUT TEQUILA] |
